Hadith about Guarding the Tongue

Hadith on guarding your speech, the harm of backbiting and lying, and the virtue of speaking well or staying silent.

19 hadith

• Keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah
• Whoever gives me a guarantee to safeguard what is between his jaws and what is between his legs, I will guarantee him Paradise
• Do you know what backbiting is?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "It is to say of your brother what he dislikes
• A scandalmonger will not enter Paradise
• I said: O Messenger of Allah, what is salvation? He said: "Control your tongue, abide in your house, and weep over your sin
• The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) never found fault with any food. If he liked it, he would eat; and if he disliked it, he would leave it
• Reviling a Muslim is Fusūq (deobedience) and fighting him is Kufr (disbelief)
• It is one of the major sins when a man abuses his parents. It was asked: Would a man ever abuse his parents? He replied: Yes. He abuses the father of another man, who in return abuses his father, and he abuses his mother, and so the latter abuses the former’s mother
• Shall I tell you what ‘ada is? It is calumny which is committed among the people
• I said: O Messenger of Allah, teach me a supplication. He said: Say O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, from the evil of my sight, from the evil of my tongue, from the evil of my heart, and from the evil of my semen
• Verily, the devil has lost hope of being worshiped by those who engage in prayer in the Arabian Peninsula, but has not lost hope of sowing dissension between them
• The son of Adam has been destined his share of fornication, which he will inevitably acquire. The eyes fornicate by looking, the ears fornicate by listening, the tongue fornicates by speaking, the hand fornicates by hitting, the foot fornicates by stepping. The heart loves and wishes. The genitals prove or disapprove that
• A believer is not a slanderer, nor a curser, nor a person who speaks obscenely, nor a person who uses foul language
• The bankrupt in my Ummah is the one who will come on the Day of Judgment with prayer, fasting and Zakah, but since he hurled abuse at others, accused others of committing adultery without evidence, unlawfully consumed the wealth of others, and shed the blood of others and beat others, his good deeds will be credited to the accounts of others (who suffered at his hands)
• When the son of Adam gets up in the morning, all of his body organs humble themselves before the tongue, and say: Fear Allah concerning us! For indeed, we are only as you are (our condition depends upon yours); if you are upright, we shall be upright, and if you are crooked, we shall be crooked
• When two people insult each other, the one who started will be the sinner until the oppressed exceeds the limits
• Do not curse the rooster, for indeed it awakens (people) for prayer
• Whoever Allah saves from the evil of what is between his jaws and the evil of what is between his legs will enter Paradise
• Allah Almighty said: The son of Adam hurts Me by cursing time, while I am time. The matter is in My Hands, I alternate the night and the day
